Pigging of Pipelines
We use pipeline cleaning pigs to clean pipelines thereby restoring their flow characteristics and also for the decommissioning of fuel pipelines.
Raw or bulk water supply pipelines are prone to fouling and silting, causing inefficiencies in the pipelines performance. This can result in unnecessary higher energy costs when the water is being pumped and more critically often, in reduced flow to the town's treatment works. Pigging a raw water pipeline will typically restore a medium diameter (300 mm) pipeline's flow by between 15 – 30 % if the pipeline is more then 15 years old. Cleaning the pipeline will also improve the water quality.
We pig: steel, plastic and asbestos cement pipelines using compressed air or water. We are constantly developing new types of pigs and pigging methods to solve whatever flow restriction problems we face. Percussive pigs and dissolving pigs are examples that we are currently working with.
The pigs are fitted with electronic tracking devices which enable us to locate them if they become stuck and also to monitor the speed of the pig as it travel through the pipeline.
High Pressure Water Jetting
We have diesel and electric driven high-pressure water jetting units that deliver 1000 Bar. With a range of tube cleaning accessories we can clean tubes from 10 mm diameter upwards as well as surface cleaning plate heat exchangers.
On shutdowns at Arcelor Mittal Saldanha Works by example; for seventeen years we have cleaned and maintained the process water cooling systems at the Corex furnace. This involves mechanical fitters stripping numerous nozzles, ring mains and valves and separate cleaning teams consecutively water blasting the elements cleaned before there are inspected and reassembled.
Pumping

Heat Exchanger Cleaning
Shellside, plate and tube bundle heat exchangers cleaned by high-pressure water jetting. Routine maintenance and cleaning for non-destructive testing. Fouling inside heat exchangers reduces efficiency and results in higher energy costs.
